INTERNET GUIDELINES |
The Library Board of Directors has voted to adopt the following policy. Parents are asked to note the rule that they must accompany children under the age of 16 who wish to use the Internet. Students 16 - 18 must have a signed parental permission on file at the library before going online. New signature forms are at the circulation desk for your convenience. BETHLEHEM LIBRARY INTERNET POLICY The
Bethlehem Library offers Internet access in its role as a public
provider of information, endeavoring to develop collections, resources
and services that meet the cultural informational, educational, and
recreational needs of the community. The library adheres to the
American Library Association policy of support for the right of all
individuals to select library materials for themselves, including those
in electronic formats. Because the Internet is a vast, unregulated
and constantly changing resource, the library cannot assume any
responsibility for its accuracy, content, completeness of information,
or age appropriateness of materials. Although it is a powerful
tool for finding information, it should not be a substitute for, but an
adjunct to, other library research materials. Patrons are
encouraged to use critical judgment in evaluating the validity of
materials accessed via the Internet. Neither the library staff,
the Board of Trustees, nor the Town of Bethlehem is liable for any
negative consequences or any damages, direct or indirect, that may occur
as a result of using its connection to the Internet. Parents of minor
children must assume full responsibility for their children's use of the
Internet via the library's connection. Children under the age of
16 must be accompanied by parent or guardian while using the Internet.
Those between the ages of 16 and 18 must have a signed parental
permission on file at the library in order to access the Internet.
Staff reserves the right to deny access to anyone whose computer skills
are inadequate, whose use is deemed inappropriate, or whose behavior
while at the workstation is inappropriate. |
