In 1899 shareholders of the private Bethlehem Library Association voted to deed their collection of over 800 books to the town. Our Bethlehem Public Library became a reality when the first directors were chosen in 1900. Today, Bethlehem Public Library offers more than 23,000 books for leisure reading, information, and research in the adult department, plus 5,000 volumes for children from toddlers through teenagers. We loan magazines, videos, music CDs, spoken word cassettes, and educational toys. We also have access to eleven million items through interlibrary loan which is made possible via our state-wide data base. Loan period for books, magazines, CDs, audios, and toys is two weeks. A renewal of 14 days is automatic except for best-sellers, interlibrary loans, and books on reserve. Video loans are for 24 hours only, or until the next day the library is open. Bethlehem residents continue to borrow more books and visit the library more frequently than the state average. Our theme "Readers are Leaders" is well supported by your active participation in all that the library has to offer. |
